The Academy
Academy Information

We are proud to announce the reopening of our state-of-the-art player development center, replete with more practice space, more amenities and, most importantly, more professional instructors.

We pride ourselves on providing high-level baseball and softball instruction for all ages and skill sets.  Our professional staff is led by Todd Fine, CEO of Top Tier Baseball. Todd’s coaching experience includes coaching the nation’s finest athletes at the Under Armour All-America Game and USA Baseball. Todd has worked with hundreds of major-league draft picks, including 29 first-round selections. The academy is loaded with high-end instructors, including three former Division I baseball recruiting coordinators, former major league scouts, professional players, head high school coaches, and a former Division I, and current college softball head coach.

Located inside the Max-McCook Athletic & Exposition Center’s state-of-the-art 120,000 square-foot open turf facility, our academy features four 20-foot-wide retractable cages, major-league-grade clay pitching mounds, and video analysis capabilities.

Whether you’re in the facility for individual lessons, team practices, small group training, or camps, our Player Development Center will provide you with the most comprehensive baseball experience in the Midwest.

Academy Tip of the Week

How can we obtain maximum velocity when pitching? Creating torque has always been the answer. When leading with the front hip while keeping our head over the back leg will put us in the best position to create as much torque as possible at the finish of our throw. This will allow the pitcher to explode with linear, and horizontal motion with the legs and core, causing the arm to work as a whip. The torque will help the pitchers arm accelerate through the throw helping reach maximum velocity.

About the Max

The McCook Athletic & Exposition (MAX) center is Chicago’s first full-sized outdoor field positioned under a clear-span 40-foot roof.  At 125,000 square feet, the Max incorporates 79,000 square feet of turf, two full-sized basketball courts, volleyball courts, and a baseball/softball academy, MAX is host to a broad range of sports and exhibitions.  The entire building is climate controlled - both heat and air-conditioning - to allow for comfortable year-round usage. The facility is designed to meet the needs of organized public and private sports teams and clubs, as well as satisfying the ever-increasing demand for more and better training and competitive facilities.

A spectator mezzanine allows for terrific sight-lines from all locations and a relaxed, roomy environment for the players, coaches and spectators alike.   A full concession and vending area is available for your enjoyment.  Complimentary wireless internet is available for visitors and coaches.  Trade shows, exhibitions and corporate as well as private events have access to a private multi-purpose/conference room, available local catering services.
